While Chiang Rai is not as big as some of the larger cities in Thailand such as Bangkok, for how small it is there is a lot to do in the city. From religious sights to spas, Chiang Rai has something for every visitor to enjoy.
Mae Salong: This quiet hilltop village is composed mostly of an ethnic Chinese population. It offers some of the best views around.
Hill Tribe Museum: This is an exploration of the nine major hill tribes. A lot can be learned about the different tribes of hill people at this museum. Be sure to visit all of the different rooms in the Hill Tribe Museum to get the full experience.
Wat Rong Khun: One of the many religious sites in Chiang Rai, this white temple has some of the most unique architectural designs. The temple can get very crowded so be sure to get there early and remove your shoes before entering.
Phu Chi Fa Forest Park: This park is known for its amazing sunrise. Around 200-300 people will come every morning to watch the sunrise. There is a giant waterfall that is running over a trapped lava flow.
Doi Tung: Also known as the royal villa where visitors go through the grounds of the Kings late mother. The setting is very beautiful with fantastic views of the hills. Shorts are not allowed in this royal villa.
Clock Tower: The local clock tower has a show every hour with a very unique presentation that involves music and many different flashing colors. Tourists and locals gather around to enjoy the show.
Lahu Village: This is one of the can't miss places to visit in Chiang Rai. Sign up for a tour guide to experience all of the village with the help of a talented tour guide.
Wang Jao Clinic and Spa: This is perhaps the best place in Chiang Rai to get a great massage. They offer a true two hour massage that is relaxing and will make the muscles feel better in the process.
Black House: This was completed by the same man who did the White Temple. This area made up of 30-40 houses is one of the true beauties of the city.
Chiang Saen: This area is full of old temples and ruins along with city walls. There is a lot of room to explore in Chiang Saen.
Sop Ruak: This is a lookout area that offers some of the best views in the city. Located in the Golden Triangle region, Sop Ruak is at the heart of the Golden Triangle.
